Koriom’s FC collapse in the second half was the moment of joy for El Meriekh, who made an astonishing comeback to win the match 3-2 on Friday evening.
Omot Sebit could have bagged an early goal for Koriom FC as he was just a tap in away from the goalkeeper, but his sluggish reaction caused the club, in the early minutes of the first half.
A premier league encounter with full of emotions, coach Justine was furious when the Meriekh defense allowed Angufi to shoot the ball towards the goal.
Meriekh defense cost the club as they opened gaps that allowed the Koriom FC player to have an upper hand and head the ball into the tight angle, making it 1-0 in favour of Koriom. The Ugandan national was lucky to have put his team ahead of the curve.
The crowd cheered as Koriom got another opportunity through a penalty, as one of its players was brought down, the referee immediately gesturing towards the penalty box for a shootout. All set, and Angufi was the man to take the penalty.
And he delivered on the assignment, slotting the ball in the other side of the net as the goalkeeper swung to the other. The player bagged a brace, and a lead (2:0) for Koriom.

Merriek’s evening would be marked by luck when their player, Tethloc Thor, was brought down at the penalty area, to award the team a shootout at the crucial hour. A clear shoot would result El Merriekh an equalizer at the 55th minute.
Koriom’s decline inside the second half saw them pay dearly as El Merriekh’s David Majak, exploiting the opportunity of a lackluster defense, scored the goal to give the team a comeback advantage and the greatest win at the final hour.
The final whistle painted light on the face of El Meriekh supporters, scores who never believed their team could make the shocking yet inspiring come back to win the match 3:2.
They will look forward to their next fixture with relief and confidence, as they face Jamus FC next weekend.
