He is a famous man enjoying both love and hate from the deeper pockets of the world. From running a TV business empire to dipping himself in the murky world of politics; Donald Trump was a package of many faces. He scaled to the top and fell due to his clamour for drama and attention when the Democrats sponsored his impeachment a second time last week.
Trump rode on the idea that America had lost its stature as the super power under Barack Obama administration, and therefore he wanted to put Washington on the world map again. He would insist on using the slogan ‘Make America Great Again’ as he beat former First Lady Hillary Clinton to the White House in 2016.
It only took a while before allegations that Trump teamed up with Russia to spy on Mrs Clinton’s emails emerged. The net spread wider bringing even Trump’s son into the picture.
At the White House, a spectacle unfolded as various journalists slipped into the wrong book of Trump. The leader of the most powerful country made unsubstantiated allegations at will; and whenever the press would query his assertions, he would deviate by throwing a ‘fake news’ tag at them. Media landscape changed and many news outlets devoted part of their mandate to debunking myths thanks to Trump’s antics.
Trump would then make mean statements about African countries much to the delight of some people who considered them factual, but to the dissatisfaction of others who considered them derogatory. His enemy bandwagon heaped as allegations of rape and sexual harassment emerged against him. Apart from being taken to task on his role on the Russian spying case, Trump was impeached in December 2019 for instructing Ukraine to probe Joe Biden but he had Republicans to thank for saving him at the floor of the senate.
Bungled interventions
In the end of 2019, at a time that coronavirus outbreak started in China, Mr Trump sneered at the Asian country for plunging the world into a catastrophe. He branded it the ‘Chinese virus’ and the reactions were mixed up.
When alarm was raised, he assured his country that there were sufficient preparations to contain the various but the result was atrocious when the virus jetted in the US. New York was in distress and the low income earning families with no proper healthcare bore the brunt of the pandemic. Ironically, Trump had undone the Obamacare which had been considered as the rewarding to the needy by issuing health cover.
In November 4, 2020, Trump headed to the ballot to beat the ‘sleepy’ Joe Biden chest thumping and his nose in the air. Nonetheless, the nightmarish reality dawned on him when the man from Wisconsin seized the moment and smashed the record winning both popular and Electoral College votes.
Trump was cut down to pieces after the recounts he ordered for gave Mr Biden a larger margin. But he grew cold and found solace in social media. His supporters believed him and followed his words religiously. Whether the elections were credible or not, no one was going to believe Trump’s allegations of vote rigging on the premise that he went into the polls as very unpopular candidate.
Trump tweeted on Wednesday, January 7, urging his supporters to stand for him and havoc ensued at Capitol Hill putting US in the list of shame. Overwhelmed by the bashing in the dying minutes of his reign, Trump gave in to seamless power transfer.
‘’Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,’’ White House Spokesman Dan Scavino tweeted after chaos.
But this was not going suffice. Democrats and some Republicans had had enough. They chucked him out before his term ended. The Senate has another decision on the table.
