The Ministry of Culture, Museum and National Heritage has taken a major step towards preserving the country’s diverse cultural heritage with the official launch of a registration drive for cultural organizations, groups, and troupes.

The initiative aims to formally recognize and support cultural troupes across the country, laying a strong foundation for South Sudan’s cultural sector. Hon. Malok Majak Malok, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, stressed the importance of this move in strengthening the role of culture in national development.

“The Ministry is committed to enhancing the capacities of cultural troupes, which play a vital role in promoting and preserving our diverse cultural heritage. By establishing a solid foundation for culture in South Sudan, the Ministry aims to foster growth and development within the cultural sector. Through this registration process, a comprehensive evaluation will be conducted to ensure that all cultural troupes are recognized, paving the way for a more vibrant cultural diversity in our nation,” Hon. Malok told reporters.

He called on all cultural troupes to take part in the registration process, noting the many benefits it offers. He emphasized that registration will not only bring recognition to the groups but will also open doors to further support and development opportunities.

“This is an opportunity for cultural organizations to gain recognition and support, which will ultimately contribute to the cultural richness of South Sudan,” Hon. Malok added.

The Ministry says it is committed to building a strong network of cultural organizations and performers who reflect the country’s unique traditions and customs. This new effort is expected to lead to a deeper appreciation and understanding of South Sudanese culture, both at home and abroad.

Mr. Saleh Nongor, the Director of Registration at the Ministry, confirmed that the registration process officially began on Monday, June 9. His announcement marks the beginning of what the Ministry hopes will be a nationwide effort to document and support all cultural troupes.

“The registration process commenced today, 9th June, 2025. This is an essential step in listing and acknowledging the various cultural troupes that contribute to the fabric of South Sudanese society,” said Mr. Nongor.

He encouraged all cultural groups to engage fully in the registration, noting that this would help the Ministry provide better services, resources, and exposure to cultural performers across the country.

The Ministry of Culture, Museums and National Heritage believes that by bringing these organizations into a formal structure, it will be easier to support them in their efforts to preserve South Sudan’s diverse cultures. The move also aligns with the Ministry’s broader strategy to promote national unity and pride through cultural expression.
