South Sudan premier league produced one of the best football derbies between Lion Hunters and Malakia SC on Thursday afternoon, as both sides played with high intensity.

First half of the match showcased brilliant performance from both teams.

Thanks to Henry Mawa who took advantage of the open Malakia defence to score a classic goal in the 9th minute to hand Lion Hunters the 1-0 lead.

As the first half ended with Lion Hunters ahead, Malakia SC club did not give up and kept on pressing their opponents.

Malakia had lady-luck at the start of the second half, as they proved dominant But Lion Hunters were also equal to the task, defending their lone goal.

On the 42nd minute, Kassimu Mugoya converted a spot kick after the Lion Hunters goalkeeper brought down his opponent inside the penalty box.

Despite the goal, both teams tried to create their own chances. Lion Hunters tested Malakia defense in numerous occasions.

Thanks to Isaac Friday’s own-goal when Jowang Emmanuel’s cross was met accidentally by the Lion Hunters captain to find his own net, handing Malakia SC a 2:1 lead.

The win takes Malakia to 4th position on the league table with 34 points.

Meanwhile Lion Hunters remain on the 11th position, with 14 points, only two points away from the red zone.
