JUBA – South Sudan’s Senior Men Volleyball team has flown to Rwandan Capital, Kigali, for this year’s African Men’s Volleyball Championship.
The African Men’s Volleyball Championship is the official competition for Africa’s senior men’s national volleyball teams, organized by the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB).
Bul Korello Koriom, Secretary-General of South Sudan National Volleyball Federation confirmed to City Review that all the preparation is going well and the team is ready to join other African teams for the competition.
“Yes, all the preparation is going well and on Monday, September 6, 2021, the team will be traveling to Rwanda, Kigali to participate in the competition,” he revealed.
He said the competition will kick off from September 7 to the September 16 of this year.
According to SG Kornello, 14 players and eight others will travel on Monday to Kigali.
“This is the first time for us to participate in CAVB and we believe is going to be hard but at the same time hope our boy can do something better,” he stressed.
However, he called on South Sudan sports fans to rally behind the team for the players to perform as expected from them.
“What is important is that our fans need to be behind us and we really need to support our team differently even if financial or what you see can help the team go forward.”
For his part, Hanney John Bosco, the head coach of the South Sudan National Team, said his team is ready to face any team in the competition.
“Although it is the first time for us, I believe in my boys and I am sure they will do something better and raise the South Sudan flag high, which everyone will be proud of,” he said.
“But I believe it is not going to be an easy game for our boys who are going for the first because if u see the team taking part in the competition, these are all well-off teams.”
About 20 teams across African will take part in the competition.
