The South Sudan National Youth Union and the Food Bank Charity are set for a two-day campaign focusing on eye reflective check-ups under the theme: “See Better, Live Better,” emphasizing on the importance of good vision for the overall well-being in Juba.

Dr. Ali, a long-term eye specialist highlights the importance of eyes and the need to take good care of them, noting that they are a small part of the human body but plays significant role.

He said that they have two departments that deal with eye complications; the department of ophthalmology and optometry.

Ali expressed that in each department, students that have completed their studies for medicines go for further studies and specialise either in ophthalmology or optometry for a period of 4-5 years.

Marial Rong, the Information Secretary of National Youth Union who was also a patient urged the organisers of the event to carry out the activity as a humanitarian obligation.

“When they did this, they were doing it on humanitarian basis. So, they should double their efforts and operate as a charity organization. We request if necessary, they should avail these devices for the people who are unable to afford to buy these spectacles,” said Rong.

“As National Youth Union, we will advocate that some organizations, even government, if possible, to provide these materials to hospitals or clinics in order for those who are unable to buy them to have access to them freely. So, this is my call and advice to the organizers. They should be more humanitarian by availing these materials,” he said.

“If they are unable to afford, let them reach out to people of goodwill, institutions, governments or non-governmental organizations for support,” he added.

Charity Kuyunge Jomo, the Executive Director of Food Bank Charity organization urged the youth and students of University of Juba to use this opportunity to know the condition of their eyes since the check-up is free and only the glasses will cost discount amount.
