A 20-year-old girl committed suicide in Torit County, Eastern Equatoria State after her father accused her of having a love affair with a village boy.
In an interview with The City Review on Tuesday, the Hiyala Payam Paramount chief, Galileo Ohide said the girl was found hanging on a tree on Sunday.
“When we were doing our investigations, we were told before the lady committed suicide, there was a boy who was beaten by the father for dating her daughter and the boy said he did not have any affair with the lady,” he said.
“The boy is currently being treated at Torit Civil Hospital.”
According to him, the girl committed suicide after learning that the boy accused of having relationship affairs with her was seriously beaten by the father.
“He went and confronted her daughter and the daughter told him that she did not have any love relationship with the boy,” Ohide explained.
He said over 10 people have lost their lives through suicide since the beginning of the year across the payam.
“There is no village which is clean where people do not commit suicide. Sometimes in a month if it is less, it is one case, and sometimes it is two or three in a month,” he said.
