You will be fined US$10 or SSP6,000 if law enforcers will find you in public with no face mask.

The fine is part of the initiative by the ministry of health to clamp down on those who will be found flouting COVID-19 mandatory rules which require wearing face masks in public.

COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Richard Lako said the National Task Force on COVID-19 has already proposed and passed tough rules for security agencies implement.

These will include the fine worth SSP6,000 on individuals who fail to observe social distancing and wearing face masks.

Lako is yet to reveal when the directive will take effects but he added that the decision had already reached the COVID-19 Taskforce and executing it was just a matter of time.

“Yes, we made the proposal and passed it to the security organs to implement. You can find out from the security. We have already done our part,” he said.

But the Police Spokesperson, Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, declined to give his response on the matter and instead referred The City Review to his deputy who was not immediately available.

The country is on partial lockdown with curfew beginning 10.00 PM till 5:00 AM in the morning.

South Sudan has so far confirmed nearly 9,000 COVID-19 cases with at least 102 deaths and 4,914 recoveries since the outbreak of the pandemic in April 2020.

The recommended preventive measures such as putting on the face masks, social distancing and avoiding overcrowding have been taken lightly despite recent surge in the positive cases in South Sudan.

The country is yet to receive the vaccine to help fight against the disease that has killed millions around the world.

However, the ministry of health has continually called on the public to protect themselves and their loved ones by absorbing all recommend health measures to stay safe.
