A fire broke out at the Pacific fuelling station in Juba’s Nyakuron yesterday evening when a fuel truck accidentally went into flames after offloading the commodity.
David Peter, an eyewitness told The City Review that the fire broke out after the fuel attendants had emptied the truck. He added that the driver predicted danger and drove off the road to avoid causing damage to the station and nearby premises.
”The driver of the petrol tank has really saved lives of people by not letting the petrol station catch fire as a result, only a few and nearby houses burnt plus shops,’’ said Liala Moses, another witness.
Pacific General Manager Amos Ongango issued a statement afterwards highlighting the incident and thanking security officers and the fire brigade for their swift response to contain the situation.
”Today the 23rd, March 2022, at around 6.30 pm, a fire broke out around our petrol station on Jebel road. We are informed that fire broke out on a truck which had just finished offloading petrol to our Petrol station. Investigations are ongoing and we will update as soon as the subject investigation is complete,’’ he noted, adding: ”We would like at this moment take this opportunity to thank the fire brigade, National Security and the public for their prompt response to this incidence and their support in putting off the fire.’’
Mr Onyango empathised with the victims who lost their property during the incident.
