Anybody found composing hateful songs targeting others will face arrest and prosecution, which are among the 24 resolutions agreed upon by the three communities

The Mony-Tiek, Ajiek, and Boor of the Rup Community in Lakes State have finally agreed to end the years of bloody conflict among them.

The community agreed on 24 resolutions to end violence, revenge killing, and road ambushes among the communities that have killed hundreds of innocent lives since 2017.The inter-communal dialogue was conducted by a peace canal organization.

Speaking at the event, Gordon Majuec Ayen, Peace Building Manager for Peace Canal said the two-day peace dialogue was funded by the Peace Building Opportunities Fund ( POF), to end the continued violence among the communities.

“One of the resolutions is that all the culprits must be apprehended by the government, to ensure due legal process. Also, individuals spreading false information or propaganda will be investigated and appropriate legal consequences will be applied,” he explained.

Napoleon Maker Phech, Chairperson of Ajiek section of the Rup community in Rumbek Centre County of Lakes State said it has been a great day to reach a consensus between the two sections.

According to him, the two sections of the Rup community have been in communal fighting for years and they have finally agreed to resolve their issues through the court.

“We came together as one community of Malek Payam. We have to compromise ourselves because we are only one body. It is an issue of naming, but we are one community under one Payam and we have to forgive each other,” he said.

“One thing that is very important in human life is forgiveness and we have to forgive each other.”

The State Minister for Peace Building, Nyanhok Malou Marial said the major sections that were attached during the dialogue were the conflicting sections of Ajiek and Boor, which were the leading and Tiek, which were part of the conflicts that happened in the past.

Ms. Malou said the five sections of the Rup community were also involved in mediating the peace between them.

“They agreed to unite, and to work towards peace. The families of the victims have expressed themselves, and they said all wanted is the government to provide justice through blood compensation.”

According to her, the communities expressed remorse for all that had happened among them in the past years.

Paramount Chief of Malek Payam, Sultan Mabor Alier Cipuounyuc said they have agreed on the blood compensation for those who lost their loved ones during the conflict.

“It was also resolved that the government forms a committee to arrange and witness the process of this blood compensation on both sides of the conflicts so that there shall be no other incident again and this is what has been resolved and agreed by all the eight 8 section of the Rup community.”
