The World Health Organization has warned that South Sudan is among 10 African countries that have registered 30 per cent increase in cases of COVID-19 this week.

The other countries in WHO list are Sierra Leone, Eritrea, Congo, Gambia, South Sudan, Ethiopia Sao Tome and Principe, Ghana and Mauritius that have also reported an increase of more than 30 per cent in the past seven days compared with the previous weeks.

“We urge the public to adhere to physical and social distancing, frequent hand hygiene and wearing of masks.  This will go a long way to ensure that the pandemic will be controlled,” World Health Organization Emergency Coordinator Dr Guyo Guracha told the media on Sunday.

Guracha added that there is an increase of 104 million in cases worldwide and 2.2 million cases in Africa. Also, the numbers of deaths have also increased from 87,000 last week to 92,000 deaths in Africa.

The government urges the public to report any suspected case to the nearest health facility and to call 6666.
