Central Bank of South Sudan launched 1,000 South Sudanese pound note on Tuesday morning. The Central Bank Governor Dier Tong Ngor presided over the launch at his office in Juba this morning.
”The currency has been declared a legal tender in the Republic of South Sudan,” a banner mounted outside the Central Bank read.
There will now be various denominations such as 1,000, 500, 100, 50, 25, 20, 10, 5 and 1 pound.
However, one, five and ten pounds have subsided in circulation due to their depreciation in value. The change in currency could be a step to shake up the economy and reduce the bulkiness of cash.
