South Sudan recorded 193 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of cases since patient zero was noted in the country in April 2020.

This means that the country’s caseload now shoots to 6,277 and the total number of recoveries goes to 4,014. The cumulative death toll now shoots to 83. The statement by the COVID Incident Manager of the Ministry of Health Richard Lako also reveals that the country has now tested 101,379 people since the outbreak of the disease last year.

The cases that are currently under follow-up are 587, while contacts who are still being reached are 377

Last week, World Health Organization (WHO) identified South Sudan as one of the 10 countries registering over 30 per cent in the surge of the virus.

The ministry of health is advising the public to strictly adhere to the measures put in place to control the spread of the virus in the country.
