Chelsea dropped points against Southampton in a frustrating 1-1 draw in the English Premier League match on Saturday evening. The Blues— who were coming from a win against Newcastle after Thomas Tuchel took over from Lampard— had to settle for a point after a calamitous blunder in the defence enabled the Saints to nick a goal.

Nathan Redmond picked a loose pass from Chelsea’s goal keeper Edouard Mendy and fed Liverpool loanie Minamino to slot home after dribbling past Caesar Azpilicueta.

The Saints were on the driving seat for the win before the half-time. In the second half, Chelsea won a penalty as Mason Mount converted from the spot to secure a well-needed point for the visitors.

Chelsea needed a win ahead of a make-or-break tie against Atletico Madrid in the knockout of the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday.

The draw in the league only means that their position in the log will deepen should West Ham win its match.
