An official from Ikotos County, Eastern Equatoria State was shot dead and a national security officer injured by a group of armed youth on Friday.

According to the officials, they are yet to establish the finding since there is no known reason as to why the attack happened.

In a statement to the media, Governor Louis Lobong Lojore said on Friday that the attack was carried out by a group of armed youth from Torit County.

 “A group of youth from Torit County went and attacked the residents of the local government officers in Ikotos County. It was just at the border of Torit County and Ikotos where the local government official was killed and the soldier of the national security injured,” Lobong said.

 “I want to send my sincere condolences to the family of the local government officer who lost his life on duty. He was a brave man and a committed officer.”

The government said some of the attackers have been arrested and promised to ensure all are apprehended and brought to the court of law.

Lobong warned the communities and called on them to refrain from violent acts.
