At least two motorcyclists were reportedly killed and their motorbikes confiscated by unidentified armed criminals along Mundri-Maridi road in Western Equatoria State Friday.
Lt. Double Seven, Mundri Police Inspector, told The City Review that the two young men were killed on Friday afternoon between Barawulo and Languwa.
The incident took place at approximately 2 p.m. South Sudan Time.
“The incident happened in a place called Golo’bi, a stream that follows between Barawulo and Languwa in Katobi Payam. The two boys were coming from Mvolo County. After reaching that place, they were stopped and taken for some few meters in the bush, and they were killed,” Mr Seven narrated.
He revealed that their bodies were later discovered and transported to their family members, after which they were buried on Saturday morning.
The attackers remained on the loose because authorities in the area were unable to apprehend them immediately after responding to the incident.
“People have been using this road every day. It was good, really. I even came on the same day to Maridi when the incident happened. Of course, it happened after an hour when we crossed from there,” the police boss said.
“Definitely, it is now the responsibility of the government to make sure the incidents are investigated and, if possible, the perpetrators are brought to book.”
Double Seven is sceptical that those criminals may not be apprehended because there are still armed groups in the bushes, including the forces NAS allied to Gen Thomas Cirilo and others.
The official added that it was not the first time such an incident had happened in the same place. He revealed that a car was burnt and property looted in the same place some two months back.
“If we continue witnessing such barbaric and cool blood killing happening at this time when people really want peace, unless we stop such things; the country will not realise peace, “he stressed.
He called on holdout groups to join the peace process in the country, adding that it was the only chance for South Sudanese to feel and enjoy the fruits of independence.
“There is no reason for us to kill ourselves; instead, it is time that we needed to come together so that we grow together as South Sudan.”
