A Ugandan reproductive health specialist has succumbed to gunshot wounds after an ambush that took place between Chukudum and Camp 15 in Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State.

The Observer reported that Clara Amono, 40, who was working at Cordiad sustained injuries when unknown gunmen attacked a convoy of vehicles of aid agencies Cordaid and Save the Children on May 12. The vehicles were moving from Torit State heading to another medical facility when the attack happened.

The media reported that a driver of one of the vehicles also sustained injuries but Amono died while getting medical assistance after the attack.

“Cordaid condemns the violence that resulted in the death of our colleague in South Sudan…Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the family and loved ones of the deceased,” said Kees Zevenbergen, Cordaid’s chief executive officer, after the incident.

She joins a long list of aid workers who have been a target in the latest wave of attacks that have attracted the condemnation of the international community.
