Ugandan law enforcers have arrested two suspects over the recent murder of South Sudanese Brig-Gen Abraham Wani Yoane Bondo in Wako District, Uganda.

According to the Daily Monitor, officers attached to the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) — a Ugandan security arm that deals with criminals—successfully tracked the suspects using call logs acquired from a telecommunication company.

According to the media reports, the duo will be questioned about the motive of the murder of Gen Bondo. This will encompass unearthing probable political motives that may have inspired the heinous crime.

Bondo was stabbed at his home in Nansana, Wako District after which he succumbed to the wounds while undergoing treatment last month.

On May 10, last week, a section of the South Sudan Opposition Movement Alliance (SSOMA), led by Gen Thomas Cirilo, announced that the faction would boycott talks with government over the killing of the general.

“SSOMA’s suspension of participation in the talks is because of the cowardly act of assassination of its senior military member, General Abraham Wana Yoane, the chief of staff of (SSNMC/A) who was killed on the 22nd April 2021 in Kampala, Uganda,” the statement partly read.

Talks between the revitalised government and SSOMA led by the Community of Saint E’gidio in Rome began since 2019. The next round was supposed to commence on Saturday May 8 through Wednesday May 12 this week.

But last week Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, Minister of Presidential Affairs said the negotiation was to engage Gen. Thomas Cirilo on the declaration of principle as well as to discuss matters of federalism and constitution reform among others.
