The Luacjang community of Tonj East County has expressed readiness to meet and reconcile with the Greater Ananatak community to restore lasting peace and unity in Warrap State.

This declaration was made during a high-level State of Emergency briefing organized by the Governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek, in Rumabuth, Romic.

The Governor called on the Luacjang community to surrender all weapons held by civilians and give peace a chance.

Wek urged the community to focus on building a better future. “Refrain from conflict and educate your children. Train them to build their community instead of destroying it.”

The meeting was attended by traditional leaders, elders, youth, and women representatives from the Luacjang area, who agreed to handover their guns to the government.

In an emotional address, Sultan Agok Aguer Adel, a respected leader in the area, expressed his personal pain caused by the inter-communal violence.

“I have lost a son in the senseless conflicts within Tonj East, but I am ready to forgive my brothers from Jalwau in order for peace, reconciliation, and development to be achieved,” he said, drawing applause and tears from many in attendance.

The Luac Aguer Adel community expressed strong support for Sultan Agok’s position and emphasized the importance of peace.

At the same time, they called on the government to take concrete steps to improve basic services in the area.

Key demands included equipping health centres, constructing schools, and renovating roads that have long suffered from neglect.

In his response, Governor Wek reassured the community of the government’s commitment to providing development and services.

He stated that reconciliation does not erase legitimate grievances. “My call for reconciliation does not cancel grievances,” he explained.

“It is only meant to halt hostilities, paving way for justice through the rule of law.”

The meeting concluded with chants of unity and a renewed hope that the people of Tonj East could finally begin to heal.

As South Sudan continues its journey toward peace, the voices from Governor Wek echo a national desire to break the cycle of violence and embrace a future defined by dialogue, forgiveness, and justice.
