People need people. Whether you’re a chronically ill patient or a conquering king, there comes a time when you simply cannot make it on your own. And the real question is: Are you humble enough to accept help when you need it most?

This passage in 1 Samuel is a turning point in David’s life. David, once a national hero who slew Goliath, is now a fugitive, hunted by the very king he loyally served. Saul, consumed by jealousy, sends men to David’s house to kill him. But in that dark moment, it’s not David’s strength or sword that saves him—it’s the compassion and quick thinking of his wife, Michal.

This story is a powerful reminder that God safeguards His people by mobilizing others around them. Throughout David’s life, God places people like Michal, Jonathan, and Samuel in his path—friends and loved ones who risk much to protect him. They form a divine safety net of support, guidance, and refuge.

Even the strongest among us cannot walk this journey alone. And that’s not a flaw in our design—it’s part of God’s perfect plan. Community is not a convenience; it’s a necessity. The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation. Just as David needed Michal to escape that night, and later relied on Jonathan’s friendship and Samuel’s spiritual covering, we too must be willing to lean on others.

And it goes both ways. Not only should we be open to receiving help, but we must also be vigilant in offering it. Who around you might need a word of encouragement, a warm meal, a safe place, or simply someone to listen? Are you ready to be the Michal, the Jonathan, or the Samuel in someone else’s story?

Pride isolates, but humility builds bridges. God’s desire is to stir a community rooted in love—where help is given freely and received humbly. The enemy wants to divide and isolate, but God unites and empowers through relationship.

So let’s cast off the myth of self-sufficiency and embrace the gift of connection. We all need each other. That’s not a sign of weakness—it’s one of our greatest strengths.
