Western Equatoria State Governor, Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba, has released SSP100 million to support the education sector. Under this move, each county will receive SSP10 million.

In a letter seen by The City Review, dated January 13, 2022, Governor Futuyo released the amount to cater for the state’s education programs.

“The Government of Western Equatoria State has released the money at the figure in the above subject for the improvement of schools in the ten (10) counties. From one hundred million South Sudanese pounds, each county will be given SSP 10 million (only ten million South Sudanese pounds), “the letter reads.

In the same letter, Futuyo directed all the county commissioners to use the SSP 10 million firmly on education.

He also directed the county commissioners to include all education directors, paramount chiefs, chiefs, and parents’ council in the use of the funds, which targets 40 public schools in the counties.

The governor then encouraged the commissioners to hand in copies of their work after completing each program.

He also directed educational authorities to employ 400 teachers in each county according to grade.

Paramount chiefs and chiefs are urged to mobilise children to go to schools in different locations in the county while promising to pay teachers monthly.

The governor also ordered all the school-going children in the state to go to school and all the teachers to report to their places of work.

The same order is to be implemented by the county commissioners, education directors, paramount chiefs, parents, guardians, and organised forces.

“Any child found moving around during school hours without attending class will be arrested by the police and the parents or guardians will be sued by the court of law,’’ he warned.

The order further added that it is the duty of county education directors to ensure that teachers are attending to their work regularly. If they do not comply, administrative action will be taken against them.

Gen. Futuyo also directed the following school fees for government primary and secondary schools:

Primary 1-3 will pay a school fee of SSP 1,500, while Primary 4-6 will pay school fees of SSP 2,500. The others are Primary 7 & 8-SSP 5,000, and Secondary 1-4-SSP 10,000 in school fees per year.
