A 16-year-old girl was killed and 10 others wounded when a drunk man threw a hand grenade to his family in Yirol West County in Lakes State, police has said.
The state police spokesman, Major Elijah Makuac said the 21-year-old attacker came home drunk and started quarrelling with his family at home and later on he took his hand grenade and detonated it.
He said as a result, his sister was killed in the incident and 10 others sustained serious injuries, including him.
“All the victims were evacuated to Yirol West County health unit for treatment, after that the incident was reported to the police. So, the investigation will continue. As of now, the suspect is in hospital for treatment under detention and is being monitored by the police,” Major Mabor explained.
“The suspect is a civilian, but the grenade belongs to his late father because his father was a soldier and when he died the hand grenade remained at home. He failed to surrender it to the authorities concerned.”
The police spokesperson stated that when a soldier dies home or in the hospital, the government regalia, be it uniforms, guns or any item related to the military are supposed to be handed over to his unit so that they are taken care of.
