In addition to the casualties and injuries, the criminals made away with over 600 cattle

Cattle traders from Greater Pibor Administrative Area were ambushed in Mogiri town, along the Juba-Bor highway by criminals. According to area authorities, the attack left nine of the traders dead, 13 others injured as they made away with 600 herds of cattle.

In a letter seen by The City Review, the office of the Chief Administrator condemned the brutal attack.  

Gola Boyoi Gola the chief administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area said that this attack occurred shortly after midnight on Wednesday. This reprehensible act of violence reflects a grave disregard to human life and complicates the tensions that have plagued the communities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area and Jonglei State,

“I strongly condemn this attack and the ongoing criminal activities in Mangala County that endanger the lives of cattle traders and civilians residing in the area. I would like to express my deepest outrage and condemnation of the brutal attack carried out by criminals from Jonglei State against Murle cattle traders in Magiri Payam, Central Equatorial State,” Boyoi stated.
He said acts of violence and criminality undermine efforts towards peace and stability within the communities, and assured that law enforcement agencies would take up the issue immediately and bring those responsible for the heinous act to justice. He expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wished speedy recovery to the wounded persons.

“We must work collaboratively against these criminal acts and ensure cattle traders and civilians are safe,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the minister of information in GPAA, Oleyo Akuer said that at 2am, unknow criminals attacked a cattle camp and started shooting. This resulted in the death of nine traders and 13 injuries. Over 600 cattle were also stolen from camp, he said.

“The identities of the criminals is still not clear. Similar incidences have happened in past. In June, for instance, cattle traders were attacked and in September, a similar incident happened where more than 100 cattle were raided. In the latest attack, witnessed said that they were attacked by people wearing army uniforms,” Akuer said.
