Uhuru Kenyatta said the decision by the U.S. president must be considered a wake-up call for Africans as to what they can do for themselves instead of crying.

Kenya’s former president, Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged African leaders to stop crying over a decision by the United States President Donald Trump to cut foreign aid.

“People are crying, why Trump is not giving us money. Why are you crying?  It is not your government, it is not your country,” Uhuru said.

“He (President Trump) has no reason to keep giving you money. You don’t pay tax in America.”

Uhuru was speaking at an event in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday.

On January 20, President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily suspending all U.S. foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending reviews to determine whether they are aligned with his policy goals.

Trump declared that “no further United States foreign assistance shall be disbursed in a manner that is not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the President of the United States.”

According to Uhuru, the decision by the U.S. president must be considered a wake-up call for them (Africans) as to what they can do for themselves instead of crying.

“To support ourselves because nobody is going to continue holding out a hand there to give you,” he stated.

“It is time for us to start using our resources for the right things. We are the ones using it for the wrong.”

He continued that the bullets and the guns that are acquired are not given for free.

“We are not buying them to go fight wars. We are fighting our own people, brothers killing brother and brother killing sisters over stupid things,” Uhuru explained.
