South Sudan Women’s Union has endorsed Nyalang Dhal Dhal as the Interim Chairperson replacing Abak Yel Madoot, who now serves as the state Minister of Health for Warrap State

Speaking at the endorsement, Nadia Arop, the Minister of Culture, said leadership is not just about holding a position, but services, vision, and courage.

According to her, leadership is about listening to the people, standing for justice and guiding the communities toward peace and development.

“We believe in your ability to guide the Women’s Union with wisdom, fairness, and strength,” Arop told the newly endorsed South Sudan Women’s Union chairperson.

“We know you will unite women from all states and all walks of life, ensuring that our voices are heard not only in community meetings, but also in the highest levels of decision-making and in our nation.”

The minister also pledged her complete support to the new leader, “We give you not only our trust but also our support.”

“Leadership is a shared responsibility and we promise to stand beside you, work with you, and contribute to the vision you will lead us toward.”

However, Arop challenged the Women’s Union to build a South Sudan where women are not just included, but are leaders in shaping a peaceful, developed and united nation.

“Today, we are gathered here with one clear purpose — to recognize the strength and importance of women in South Sudan, to honor our achievements, and to ensure that women continue to play a leading role in building peace and developing our communities,” she stated.

The new interim chairperson of the South Sudan Women’s Union, Nyalang Dhal Dhal, called for cooperation between the women, saying she is committed to working towards changes

Ishaq Alias Abrahim, the acting chairperson of Gender, Child and Social Welfare in the parliament, acknowledged the contributions of women in the country and urged them to table their budget for the upcoming national budget discussions.

“We need to make sure women’s priorities are included. I am requesting that this Union prepare a clear budget proposal for women’s programs and activities.”

He further acknowledged the roles being played by women in the progress of the country, citing Nunu Kumba, who is advocating for women’s representation in all sectors of the government.

Mr. Alias asked the women to prioritize girl child education as they are the future of the country.

“Women are no longer stay-at-home mothers but breadwinners for their families, competing for the same roles as men.”

The Secretary of the Union, Mary Abang stated that the journey is about momentum, empowering women, and encouraging their participation.

She described the women as farmers, business owners, community leaders, and peace builders as they play a vital role in shaping the nation’s future.

“Our women are resilient. They work on farms, run businesses and lead community projects. This is why women from different tribes and communities often come together to form strong groups that support each other.”

“The South Sudan Women’s Movement is one of these strong bodies,” Abang said.

She urged her colleagues to follow the guiding principles of the women of South Sudan that focus on sustainable peace and sustainable development for everyone.
