Warrap State government has strongly condemned the recent violent clashes in Tonj South County that resulted in deaths, injuries, and cattle theft, describing the incident as unfortunate and deeply distressing.
In a statement issued yesterday, the State Ministry of Information and Communication Services expressed concerns over the escalation of violence that left four people dead and seven others wounded.
The clashes also led to the theft of 13 cattle, further heightening tensions in the affected communities.
Minister Mamer Bath Marol, said, the state government has learned with dismay the unfortunate violent clashes that left 4 people dead and 7 wounded as well as the theft of 13 cattle in the latest clashes in Tonj South County.
Bath strongly condemned the incident and called on all parties involved to avoid further violence.
“As the government of Warrap state, we strongly condemned the violent killing perpetrated by enemies of peace and urged parties to these unfounded clashes to refrain from orchestrating further escalation,” he stated.
The State government described the loss of lives as baseless and extended sympathy to the bereaved families.
“The government of Warrap state is extremely distressed by the baseless loss of lives and extends whole-hearted condolences to the bereaved families and victims of those violent clashes,” Bath said.
Authorities also appealed for calm among residents of the affected areas as investigations and local interventions continue.
“We are equally calling on communities and families affected by this uncalled-for demise, stealing and destruction to remain calm as state and local authorities sort the mess.”
However, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to peace and harmony across Warrap State.
It assured the public that measures are being taken to investigate the root causes of the violence and to ensure accountability.
“As the state government, we reiterate our commitment to maintaining peace and harmony among our communities and assure the public, especially victims of this violence, that the Warrap state government will investigate the root causes of the incident and hold the perpetrators accountable,” the Minister added.
The statement comes at a time when local authorities are working to strengthen community dialogue and prevent further clashes in parts of the state that have experienced repeated tensions linked to cattle disputes and inter-communal disagreements.
Officials say security agencies and local leaders have been tasked with restoring calm and supporting affected families. The government has also called on community leaders, youth groups, and elders to play an active role in promoting peaceful coexistence and discouraging retaliation.
Warrap State authorities maintain that peace remains their top priority and that those responsible for the violence will face the law once investigations are completed.
