The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, Barani Hiiboro has hailed the appointment of Dr. Monday Semaya Kumba as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

In a powerful congratulatory letter dated April 15, obtained by The City Review, Bishop Hiiboro described Amb. Kumba as a “bridge-builder, reconciler, and peacemaker.”

The clergy said the leadership of Amb. Kumba signals a turning point for South Sudan’s foreign relations and international cooperation.

“You are now entrusted with the noble task of presenting to the world not just the policies of a government, but the soul of a nation its resilience, its beauty, and its yearning for renewal,” the Bishop wrote.

The Bishop’s message comes at a crucial moment for South Sudan, as the nation struggles to restore its diplomatic image amid the lingering shadows of internal conflict and humanitarian crises.

According to the Bishop, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is more than a political post; it is “a sacred calling” that demands not only intellect and strategy but also moral clarity and compassion.

Amb. Kumba’s appointment has sparked optimism across political and faith communities, given his track record of diplomacy and unwavering patriotism.

“Many voices across the world speak of us with sorrow rather than solidarity. But, Honorable Minister, in you, we see a restorer of trust and dignity,” Bishop Hiiboro noted.

The letter also invoked scripture, offering spiritual encouragement with the words: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

The Bishop pledged continued prayers and support for Amb. Kumba, urging him to keep Christ at the center of his work as he leads South Sudan into a new era of diplomatic engagement.
