The newly appointed Chief Administrator of the Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA), Stephano Wieu de Mialek, was sworn in yesterday as the area’s SPLM Chairperson.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Daniel Awet Akot, the SPLM Deputy Chairman.

The event was attended by the 1st Deputy Speaker for the Council of States, senior SPLM members, former government officials from RAA, and traditional leaders.  

In his remarks, Stephano Wieu expressed deep gratitude to the SPLM leadership, particularly President Salva Kiir, who is also the SPLM Chairman, for granting him a second opportunity to serve both the people of the Ruweng Administrative Area and the SPLM party.

Wieu reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the SPLM’s values, vision by prioritizing service delivery such as health and education to the communities.

Meanwhile, Daniel Awet Akot, the SPLM Deputy Chairman, appealed for unity among the people of the Ruweng Administrative Area.

He urged the Ruweng Community to resolve their differences amicably and work collectively for the development of the Area.

Also, Awet encouraged the newly appointed SPLM Chairperson in RAA, Stephano Wieu de Mialek, to ensure equal treatment for all citizens and create more opportunities for women to participate in governance and decision-making processes.

Early this month, President Salva Kiir dismissed the Chief Administrator of the Ruweng Administrative Area, Top Monyluak and appointed Stefano Wieu, who had previously held the role before being dismissed by the president in May 2024.

The changes came just days after the Ruweng Administrative Area faced unrest after armed youth from neighboring Mayom County in Unity State attacked Abiemnhom County, which is part of the administrative area.

The attack, which briefly resulted in the capture of the county headquarters, left at least 29 people dead.
