The Mayor of Bor Municipality, Jacob Achiek Machar, has banned slaughtering of goats and cows by hotels and restaurants in the area.

GThe mayor said the order aims at curbing criminal activities and ensuring public health in Bor town.

“Bor Municipal Council has issued a provisional order banning the slaughter of cows and goats within hotels and restaurants across the municipality,” Achiek said, citing section 57, and 40 of the Local Government Act 2009.

“The primary objective of this order is introduced to reduce criminal activities related to animal theft, discourage the slaughter of infected animals, and to minimize the chances of consuming contaminated meat within Bor Municipal Council,” he added.

The may urged all law enforcement agencies to implement the order to ensure public health safety.

“Anyone who violates this order shall be dealt with legally before the competent court in Bor Municipal Council.”

However, he advised those planning to slaughter the animals to seek the services of slaughter houses, as these are the approved areas where hygiene and standards can be maintained.

The  directive is expected to impact the operations in hotels and restaurants in Bor, as it will have to cost them to transport the meat from the slaughter houses to the facilities.

On the other hand, the move signals a proactive approach by the Bor Municipal Council to address issues of public safety and health within its jurisdiction.
