Juma said the incident happened on Wednesday morning when the group of miners were at work at the Nachete gold mine.

“They were working at the gold mine nearly a forested area. It is like the bees were disturbed from their hive, which prompted the attack. The incident happened on Wednesday morning.

“He (the Chinese miner) was very old. He was transported to Juba by someone we were told is a relative.”

Kerbino Awat, Medical Director at the Kapoeta South County Civil Hospital attributed the death to the delay in seeking proper medical treatment at the facility. He said the man was first taken to some smaller clinics around before he was later referred to the facility.

“The bees stung him in a distant place in Kapoeta. However, he was first taken to some clinics around before he was brought to us for treatment. By the time he was reaching here he was already overwhelmed. He suffered from multiple organ failure,” he said.
