Jonglei State Governor Denay Chagor’s whereabouts are reportedly unknown after civil servants took to the streets to register their discontent with the state over the allowance.

At least two protestors have been injured as protesters headed for the state headquarters in Bor.

According to sources who spoke to The City Review from Bor, the protestors overrun the bodyguards of the governor and made their way to the state secretariat.

“Two protestors have been injured during the struggle to push through the security guarding point.  It is not a gun shoot but they were just beaten up by the security,” the person said.

The sources said the state government had diverted the allowances meant for the civil servants to fund the security sector.

“This decision has been rejected by the civil servants and that is why they went on the street today to demand their right,” the source said.

The well-placed source said the deputy governor Antipas Nyok Kucha has called for an emergency meeting to engage the protestors in a peaceful dialogue.

However, sources said the situation remained tense as non of the civil servant is willing to sit for any meeting. They only want their allowance to be paid.”

Civil servants have petitioned Governor Chagor to address their plight. However, this seems to have happened since last year.
