The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) is calling on the Government of South Sudan, Regional and International Community to hold Sudan government accountable.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference on Tuesday, Bishop James Lado Emiliano, General overseer of Sudan Pentecostal Church said the SSCC reiterated that the government of Sudan should be accountable on human rights violation.

Bishop Lado also urged the citizens to remain calm and refrain from the temptation of engaging in violence.

“We the leaders of South Sudan Council of Churches and the faithful of South Sudan, with heavy hearts have learned of the unfortunate killings of south Sudanese and other nationals at Wad Madani, Sudan on January 16, 2025.”

“The mass atrocities and killings of helpless innocent people conducted systematically by Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) is unjustifiable. Even churches and places of worship were targeted by both factions in the conflict and many churches were deliberately bombarded. This is a violation of religious rights and worship. Whatsoever the case, the Sudanese Government bears full responsibility over their forces,” said Bishop Lado.

“We the church leaders call upon the Government of South Sudan, the Regional and International Community to hold the Government of Sudan accountable and demand swift actions to protect civilians and bring perpetrators to justice without delay and further ensure that all forms of atrocities including the extrajudicial killings and human rights violations are never repeated,” he added.

Furthermore, the bishop appealed to the Government of South Sudan to take responsibility in ensuring the safety of its citizens in Sudan and elsewhere, including their safe return to the country.

“To the citizens of South Sudan, we urge you to remain calm, refrain from the temptation of engaging in violence and abide by the culture of peace and coexistence with all your neighbours as Jesus taught us,” he added.
