Drug shortages hit Mayom County, Unity State as the public health centres spent more than three months without medical supplies from the national government, the authority has said.
The area commissioner, Luke Chierye Riek told The City Review on Thursday that the crisis begun in August and that all facilities have not received any drugs in the last three months.
He said there are rampant cases of deaths in the county due to lack of drugs to treat the patients.
“The Mayom County people have been staying for three months without drugs supplies to them by national ministry of health and State ministry of health, and the big problem now it’s access to Bentiu hospital and Warrap State when there is patient that needs to be referred to those areas,” Riek said.
He added that the situation of medical treatment at the Mayom community is in a dire situation as the community could not get better treatment.
“We requested so many consignments from the State ministry of health to support us with enough drug supplies but nothing has since been done, and our people still need more assistance from national level and State because we are in a flood situation and we cannot manage anything concerning the drug supplies.”
The commissioner added that during his visit to the 11 Payams of Mayom County, he has experienced by himself the dire situation that the people are undergoing through.
