The Governor of Jonglei State Dr. Riek Gai Kok has praised the Korean Military Contingent of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for their dedicated efforts in community development and empowerment.
The ceremony, held last week at the State Secretariat in Bor meant to celebrate the contingent’s significant impact on local livelihoods and resilience across the state.
The Korean military contingent has been training young people on agriculture, poultry farming among others in Jonglei State.
Governor Gai lauded the contingent’s diverse contributions, which include crucial infrastructure development, agricultural innovation, and vocational training.
He specifically highlighted their role in constructing vital infrastructure, introducing rice and vegetable farming, supporting poultry production, and providing hands-on vocational training. These initiatives have not only boosted food security, but also fostered sustainable opportunities for youth and families within the state.
“This recognition is a testament to the enduring partnership and friendship between the people of Jonglei State and the Korean Contingent, Your legacy will continue to inspire progress and unity,” Gai said.
However, Geetha Pious, Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Bor field office, also offered high praise for the UN peacekeepers.
“There is no better time than this to honor outstanding personalities like you, so together we can build a global partnership for peace,” she said
Pious emphasized the importance of acknowledging the “outstanding ones” among the many patriotic individuals who contributed meaningfully to the peace-building project in Jonglei state
In a reciprocal gesture of appreciation, the Korean Military Contingent donated laptops, desktop computers, and printers to the governor’s office.
This donation underscores their continued support for the state’s leadership and their commitment to strengthening institutional capacity, symbolizing enduring partnerships and shared progress toward sustainable development.
