The Governor of Warrap State, Bol Wek Agoth, on Monday visited Manyang-Ngok Payam to assess the situation of communities affected by recent communal violence.

Speaking to residents, Governor Wek expressed deep concern over the suffering caused by the conflict and reaffirmed his commitment to restoring peace and unity in the region.

“I have come to witness your suffering, which has been brought about by communal fighting, and to share with you my urgent mandate to reconcile communities and disarm civilians in order to enable peaceful coexistence,” he stated.

As part of his visit, the Governor delivered financial aid and essential food supplies, including maize flour, beans, and cooking oil, which were distributed to displaced families. He also promised that additional humanitarian assistance would soon follow.

“More support is on the way,” he assured the people.

Governor Wek drew attention to the area’s legacy of peace, urging residents to uphold their heritage of law and order. He reminded them of the customary Wanh-alel laws written in Manyang-Ngok, invoking the name of William Deng Nhial as a symbol of unity and legal tradition.

“You must refrain from violence and submit to the rule of law, especially under the current State of Emergency,” he emphasized.

Residents of Manyang-Ngok warmly welcomed the Governor’s visit and appreciated his engagement. However, they voiced concerns over the lack of infrastructure in their area, including roads, schools, and health facilities. They called on the government to prioritize development initiatives that would uplift their community.

In response, Governor Wek appealed to all relevant stakeholders—including humanitarian agencies, international organizations, philanthropists, and citizens of goodwill—to extend their support to the people of Manyang-Ngok.

“I urge humanitarian agencies and well-wishers to support those affected by conflict in this region so that we can restore and strengthen their livelihoods and foster lasting peace and prosperity,” he said.

The Governor’s visit forms part of the Warrap State Government’s broader efforts to foster reconciliation, healing, and recovery in communities torn apart by violence. By delivering aid and championing peace, he underscored the importance of unity, respect for tradition, and adherence to the rule of law as foundational principles for the future of Warrap.

Though still grappling with the effects of trauma and displacement, the people of Manyang-Ngok expressed hope that the Governor’s visit would lead to tangible change and lasting peace. They called on the government and its partners to stay actively engaged in rebuilding their lives and ensuring a stable and peaceful future for their community.
