The governor of Unity State Joseph Manytuil Wejang has suspended the state minister of information and communication Gabriel Hon Makuei.

Makuei said the governor had suspended him on Thursday but cited no reason for the action.

Hon was appointed on the ticket of SPLM-IG, one of the main signatories to the revitalised peace agreement.

“I have been actively reporting about the flooding that affected thousands of people in the area, and I have no problem with his Excellency the governor. I don’t know what I did,” Makuei told The City Review in a telephone interview yesterday.

“We are all coming from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in the government and all of us are leaders who are appointed to deliver services to our people without discrimination,” he added.

However, Makuei said he was waiting on Governor Wejang with the hope that he would rescind his decision.

Makuei is the latest state official to be suspended by Governor Manytuil. On August 2021, Manytuil suspended the Minister of Health Mosses Lam Dhil without any clear reason. Lam protested that his suspension was unlawful because it had no detailed reason.
