Amid growing concerns over the safety of foreign nationals in Sudan, South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has assured its citizens residing in Sudan that their welfare remains a top priority.

In a statement released yesterday, the Ministry said it is actively engaged in monitoring the developments and is working in close coordination with Sudanese counterparts to ensure that South Sudanese citizens are protected during this uncertain period.

“The Ministry is actively monitoring the safety and well-being of our citizens in Sudan and remains in close contact with the Sudanese authorities to ensure their protection during this period,” said Amb. Apuk Ayuel Mayen, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Government urged the nationals living in Sudan to remain calm and maintain regular communication with the South Sudanese Embassy in Port Sudan.  

The Foreign Affairs Ministry reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives, rights, and interests of its citizens, whether at home or abroad. “The Government of South Sudan is committed to safeguarding the rights and welfare of its citizens both at home and abroad,” the statement emphasized.

This move comes as tensions remain high in parts of Sudan, where intermittent political unrest and humanitarian challenges have raised fears for the safety of foreign nationals, particularly in areas with limited access to consular services. South Sudanese citizens, some of whom live, worked, or study in Sudan, have reportedly expressed concern about their personal security and the ability to access essential services amid the unfolding situation.

The Ministry’s announcement seeks to calm fears and reinforce communication between the government and its diaspora community, signaling that no citizen will be left behind.

As events in Sudan continue to unfold, the Ministry assured the public that it will provide further updates as necessary and that all government mechanisms are on standby to respond to any emerging needs of South Sudanese abroad.
