The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has officially handed over three tractors to Jonglei State to enable the region mechanize and bolster agricultural yield.

The three tractors were received by the state’s Secretary General, Kur Ayuen Kou, who was accompanied by Hon. PuokTut Rang, the Jonglei State Coordinator in Juba.

Speaking during the handover, Kou expressed gratitude to the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, for his gesture to promote cooperation between the national and state governments in the agricultural sector.

“I thank Hon. Minister for Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, for his dedication to fostering cooperation between the national and state governments in advancing agricultural development,” Kou stated.

“I appreciate H.E. Salva Kiir for his generous donation of the tractors, which aligns with his mandate of making this year a year of peace and agricultural progress,” he added.

Representing the Governor of Jonglei State, Kou emphasized that the three tractors will be allocated to three payams (administrative areas) in the state, and that additional tractors will be distributed next year under the mechanized agriculture program.

This program is part of a broader national initiative aimed at modernizing traditional farming methods and improving food security in South Sudan.

Speaking to the press, Eng. Emmanuel Semaya Kumba, Director for Agricultural Mechanization at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Jonglei State.

He urged communities in the state to make good use of the tractors to increase food production.

“Local communities should utilize the tractors effectively to maximize their benefits,” he said. “These developments will reduce dependence on foreign assistance.”

Kumba further underscored the long-term vision for agricultural transformation in the country.

“These developments are only the beginning,” he said. “With clarity of vision, committed leadership, and a robust implementation strategy, we are building a modern, resilient, and prosperous agricultural sector for Jonglei State.”

The handover of these tractors is a key milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance food security, modernize farming practices, and promote sustainable agricultural development.

Officials believe that with continued support and coordination between the national and state governments, the agricultural sector in Jonglei State can become a strong pillar for economic growth and self-reliance.
