The new First Undersecretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ochum Genes Karlo, has promised to develop a strategic plan to improve the trade industry in the country.
Karlo made the promise during his reception at the ministry of trade and industry premises yesterday in Juba.
He stated that working to improve the trade sector is a step forward in empowering the country’s economic growth, which he described as the country’s backbone.
“I plan to develop trade, specifically how we can develop our business environments. How to develop our business community and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture. So, these are the things we are coming to do to improve trade in this country and properly develop the industries, ” Karlo stressed.
However, Karlo emphasised the importance of collaboration among all members of the ministry to achieve the ministry’s goal of improving trade in the country.
Karlo urged the ministry’s employees to cooperate with everyone to take the country forward.
“Let me start by saying that we will work together in the spirit of cooperation and teamwork, which is key to our success. Let us always consult with one another and create a conducive environment for all,” he stated.
Karlo reiterated his willingness to work with everybody in the ministry with the essence of collaboration, and teamwork, adding that one cannot do better without the other.
He emphasised the importance of each staff member at different positions in the ministry in achieving the development goals of any given country.
Karlo said that from unclassified to classified, everyone has a vital role to play in the ministry.
Mary Akech Milla, first acting undersecretary in the ministry of trade and industry, appreciated the new first undersecretary for his appointment in the ministry.
Milla assured Karlo of the ministry’s team and cooperation with the new undersecretary and called on the new man to do the same to cooperate with all the staff.

Kiir then appointed Ochum Genes Karlo as the First Undersecretary for the Ministry of Trade and Industry to succeed Agak Achuil Lual, who was appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Planning last year.
It was the third time for Ochum Genes Karlo to serve as an undersecretary. In 2018, he served as the undersecretary of planning in the ministry of finance.
In 2021, he was promoted as first undersecretary in the ministry of finance, a position he held until his recent relocation to the ministry of trade and industry.
