A sensational traffic police officer George Kenyi has again been recognized for his sterling and exemplary service to the public, this time, by a female business tycoon.
Kenyi has been rewarded with a brand new car worth $4000 by Achai Wiir, the Chief Executive Officer of Achai Wiir Company Monday last week.
Kenyi, whose service at Seventh Day roundabout caught public attention before, received many rewars, including cash and house furniture as well as award of sponsorship for his three children by Trinity Energy Limited in the past months.
Wiir who owns a general trading company named after her, donated a car to Kenyi on Monday plus several other material gifts to traffic police officers serving at the Seventh Day Roundabout.
The event was attended by senior government officials including Director General of Traffic Police, Lt. Gen. Kon John Akot, Maj. Gem. Justin, Police Spokesperson and hundreds of Juba residents on Monday.
This is the third time Kenyi has been recognized for projecting the positive image of the country’s traffic police by his diligent and obedient service free from illegal collection of money from drivers in the capital Juba.
Speaking during the ceremony, Lt. Gen. Kon John Akot, Director General of Traffic Police commended Achai Wiir Company for recognizing traffic police’s hard work often unnoticed by the public.
“This serves as a prove of hard work of Traffic Police to those who deny them saying they are corrupt. People should appreciate our service in ensuring safety of citizens. We are not against citizens; our work is to protect them when they are on the road.
“Despite all our challenges – we do not have raincoat, our salary is very little, we commit ourselves to work to ensure citizens are safe. But still we are being blamed that our officers are collecting money illegally on the roads,” Akot said.
Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin, Police Spokesperson said the morale of the police would be boosted by the donation, encouraging public to emulate Achai Wiir Company and stop criticizing the police all the time.
“Often times people talk ill of the police without mentioning the good things they do. But now this is a new important development which is going to raise morale of traffic police Achai spearheaded. They should also be appreciated for their good deeds, not always condemning them,” Justin said calling on the public to cooperate with traffic police in fighting crimes in Juba.
Matthew Lobojo, representative of Kenyi’s family appreciated the company for the donation and called on the rest to fulfil their pledges.
Representative of Achai Wiir Company, Justice, Monyluak Alor Kuol, promised the company’s continuous support to boost morale of the police to enable effective service delivery to citizens.
“We know the suffering of those who protect the people in the country and its good to appreciate them for the good service they offer amid challenges. We shall continue to do what we can to support our people in South Sudan,” said Alor.
