Hundreds of youth in Koch County, Unity State on Monday took to the streets to protest against the appointment of Gatkuoth Kun Dar as the new Vice President of Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC) in Tharjiarth oilfield.

Mr. Kun was appointed last week by the Managing Director of Nile Corporation.

Speaking to The City Review, the youth chairperson of Jack Payam, Wicyac Wich, said the appointment of VP should be from the four Counties such of Koch, Guit, Mayiendit, Panyjinar, and Leer respectively.

According to him, the appointment should be based on the Counties under Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC).

“We rejected the appointment of VP Gatkuoth Kun Dar as vice president of SPOC company because he is not part of Sudd Petroleum Operating Company (SPOC) block 5A. He is from block 5B GPOC company and he was supposed to be appointed from there as son of Rubkonta County.”

Mr. Wich further said that the youth were also protesting the removal of the new VP of SPOC block A who was appointed last week as well as rejected the appointment of Gatkuoth Kun Dar.

Stephen Matai said they want Gatkuoth Kun Dar’s appointment to be revoked since he does not hail from the four counties where SPOC block 5A operates.

“We are appealing to the national Ministry of Petroleum to revoke the appointment because we don’t want the Gatkuoth Kun Dar,” Matai said.
