The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Ambassador Dr. James Pitia Morgan, participated in a high-level cordial meeting hosted by His Excellency President Lee Jae-myung of Korea in the South Korean capital. The meeting included the foreign ministers of 19 African countries, along with representatives from the African Union, the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
A Periodic Summit to Promote Shared Growth
During the meeting, President Lee Jae-myung expressed his great optimism about the future of the African continent, calling for the institutionalization of relations through periodic summits between Korea and Africa to explore prospects for mutual growth and development. He also stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic channels and continuous communication between foreign ministers to address shared global challenges and strengthen economic and political partnerships.
The Korean President’s proposal to hold the next Korea-Africa Summit in 2029 was warmly welcomed by the leaders and participants, with the logistical and technical details of the summit to be discussed at the upcoming senior officials’ meeting.
South Sudan and Korea: Looking to Deepen Bilateral Relations
In his remarks during the meeting, Dr. James Pitia Morgan conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, to the Korean leadership.
The Minister affirmed South Sudan’s keenness and firm commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Korea, emphasizing that the geographical distance between the two countries would not hinder the development of fruitful economic and developmental cooperation. The meeting concluded with a joint pledge by both sides to deepen diplomatic coordination and enhance investment partnerships in various vital sectors.
