Authorities in Budi County of Eastern Equatoria State are suspecting a group of Logir youth from Ikotos County to be involved in the killing a farmer in the area on Sunday.

According to the local authorities, the peasant was shot dead while in his garden farming.

In an interview with The City Review on Tuesday, Budi County Executive Director Alfred Odong expressed dismay over the incident and accused the Logir of Ikotos County of carrying such practice.

He said the footmarks were followed and it entered the Kidepo of Logir area.

“This is very sad; he was killed by criminals from the neighboring Logir because people went through the footsteps of these people and these people descended to Kidepo River those are the Logir group because there were about 6 or 7 people who came to this area.”

Meanwhile, Charles Longoli, a Member of Parliament representing Budi County in the state legislative assembly condemned the incident and called on the two leaders of Budi and Ikotos to bring an end to such practices among the two communities.

According to the area lawmaker, several dialogues have been conducted in an attempt to end such practices, but all were futile.  “Previously we had several peace dialogues, and we moved in all those villages of the two communities. Those are wrong elements rejected by their community. It is not the whole community doing such things,” he said.
