JUBA – The chairperson of Mangalla Internally Displaced Persons Atem Akuoch Miot and the leader of a cattle camp have locked themselves in a police station in protest of a vicious ongoing fight in Mangalla Payam.
“I and the leader of the cattle camp came up with a suggestion to arrest the criminals and hand them to the police station to rescue the tense situation,” Mr. Akuoch narrated.
“I am going to sleep here (Police station) but if they get the person who killed the other person last night then maybe I will release myself,” he said.
Akouch highlighted that from the moment some of the community members realized that he was in custody, they sent a delegation to look for the suspected killer.
“I went and told the community that I am serious and I need to talk to my people in a way that the issues can be solved so that there is peace between the two communities,’’ he revealed.
He explained to City Review on a phone interview yesterday that a herder was killed by a group of farmers from the host community.
However, on the same day, on a fateful night of Thursday, the relatives of the deceased retaliated and as a result, one person from the host community was killed and three others left critically wounded.
“This morning the security [team] went to that area and arrested the person who killed the cattle keeper in Mangalla and he is handed to the police in Mangalla the same way we tried to get the people who killed the person last night from the host community plus the three people are wounded so the situation is tense right now,” he said.
The fight broke out in Mangalla Payam in Geri.
