The Civil Registry, Nationality, Passports, and Immigration Department has announced plans to deploy mobile registration teams to schools in Juba to facilitate the issuance of citizenship certificates and passports to fourth-year secondary school students and eighth-grade primary school students preparing for national examinations.

This initiative follows the arrival of a shipment of 105,000 citizenship cards and 3,600 blank passport booklets, aimed at enhancing the availability of civil registry services throughout the country.

In statements to local media, Director General Maj. Gen. Elijah Costa said the department now has more than 200,000 citizenship cards in stock and is ready to expand registration services.

“We have received 105,000 citizenship cards in addition to 3,600 passports. Our current stock is more than 200,000 citizenship cards in our warehouses,” Costa said. He urged citizens to apply for citizenship certificates and announced plans to expand services to the states by deploying mobile registration teams.

“Soon we will be calling on all immigration bureau directors in the states to receive their mobile teams so they can start issuing citizenship certificates and passports in every state,” he said.

Costa said the directorate will also send mobile registration teams directly to schools in Juba to help students obtain the documents needed to register for exams.

“We have a plan so that every school, especially within Juba city, that is preparing fourth-year secondary or eighth-grade primary students for exams, can receive a mobile team from us. We are ready to send a mobile team to any school that is ready,” he said.

He encouraged schools to submit applications early to avoid the delays and congestion that often occur during exam periods.

“We want the process of obtaining citizenship documents to start early because when exams are approaching, there is usually a rush,” Costa added. “Schools can submit their applications to us, and we can send our staff there.” The Civil Registry Department says the initiative aims to reduce the challenges faced by students who need citizenship documents before registering for national exams.
