A 43-year-old Boma chief in Mvolo County, Western Equatoria State, has been arrested for allegedly clobbering his wife to death.

Albino Jombo is in police custody and is waiting for a murder charge.

The 30-year-old wife is survived by her three children.

Speaking to The City Review yesterday, John Dee, Mvolo County commissioner, described the incident as an unfortunate and unforeseen misfortune that befell the couple.

“What happened a few days back was that a chief by the name of Albino Jombo of Ngoronya Boma in Mvolo County had a fight with his wife, but he, unfortunately, killed her,” John said.

“It was an unfortunate event which no one wanted or expected to happen to such a leader who had a well-established family and was a problem solver in the community. It was really sad for the family of the late woman, “he added.

John confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who is being held by police in Mvolo County as the investigation continues. 

However, he said the motive for the killing was not clear.

“The police investigation committee is working on the procedures, and sooner or later, all of us may be able to get accurate information about what went wrong,” John confirmed.

He urged the public, especially the relatives and friends of the deceased, to remain patient and calm as the government investigates the root causes of the problem.

The official condemned the killing and asked the public to refrain from violence against women. He called on people to come together to solve issues amicably.

“What I would like to tell people, especially in my area as well as the country as a whole, is that, you know, what we call Gender-Based Violence (GBV), should be stopped. In particular, men need to stop that,” John stressed.
