Political Parties Council (PPC) has said limited funding has placed considerable strain on the council’s ability to carry out its tasks effectively.

James Akol Zakayo, Chairperson of PPC said they all have shared responsibilities to meet the aspirations of the people of South Sudan.

He made the remarks at the stakeholders’ workshop in Juba on Wednesday, a forum that discussed the challenges in the peace implementation.

The discussion was primarily focused on finalizing security sector unification, advancing the constitution-making process, and progressing electoral preparations.

Despite some achievements, such as the establishment of essential electoral institutions like the National Election Commission, the National Constitutional Commission, and the Political Parties Council, the country faces a multitude of challenges.

Zakayo revealed that the Political Parties Council had requested a budget of SSP 40 billion (USD 40 million) to meet the pre-election requirements, only SSP 16 billion SSP (USD 16 million) was released.

He said they are left with a gap of SSP 24 billion (USD24 million).

The lack of adequate funding and resources remains a constant challenge in meeting the deadlines of the 2018 Peace Agreement, which outlines the political transition.

Zakayo highlighted the necessity of securing robust financial and technical support.
