The Jonglei State Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed six cholera death cases in Akobo County.
Duop Roam Kok, director general in the state ministry of health said the 326 cases were recorded in the last 14 days in the County.
The reports indicate that Akobo County is experiencing a surge in cholera infections.
He said the surge is significant placing immense strain on already fragile healthcare systems in the county.
“We have 326 patients in the hospital and 6 death cases. We recorded the 326 cases in just 14 days and other 6 deaths cases,” he said.
“I want to assure the citizens of Jonglei State that the Ministry of Health has tried its best to control the situation,” said Roam.
Despite the recent launch of the oral cholera vaccine in the state, he said Akobo County was left behind as there were no cases reported in the first few months of the outbreak.
“Akobo remains behind, there was no case received from Akobo County last time and now we have received these cases then it seems that we have chased cholera away from other counties and it is now going to Akobo,” said he.
Roam added that all cases are being managed in the Akobo County health facility in the county.
He added that the state ministry is dispatching a medical team to the county to assess the situation.
