The Vice President for the Economic Cluster, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, on Tuesday met with the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Amb. Michael J. Adler to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
The meeting, held on April 22 in Juba, was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Monday Semaya Kumba.
According to Oyiti Ajawin, Press Secretary in the Office of the Vice President for Economic Cluster, the discussions focused on “expanding economic cooperation, deepening strategic investment partnerships, and reinforcing the historic bond between South Sudan and the United States.”
During the meeting, Dr. Benjamin appreciated the support of the United States to South Sudan over the years. “The United States continues to play a critical role in delivering life-saving humanitarian support, providing food, clean water, healthcare, education, and protection to millions,” he said.
He also highlighted the importance of the longstanding relationship between the two nations.
The vice president said the relationship between South Sudan and the U.S government dates back to the days of South Sudan’s liberation struggle.
“As the leading international donor to our country. The United States has stood with us throughout our journey of nation-building.”
Dr. Benjamin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building stronger economic partnerships. “Greater economic collaboration with the United States will unlock new opportunities in trade, infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education and job creation,” he stated.
He explained that these areas are “essential pillars of our national development agenda.”
In his part, Ambassador Adler welcomed the discussion and underscored the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides agreed on the potential benefits that increased U.S. investment and support could bring to South Sudan’s development.
Meanwhile, Monday Semaya Kumba, the Foreign Minister, also echoed the government’s dedication to fostering partnerships that bring real change. The meeting underscored the shared vision of a more prosperous South Sudan, built on mutual respect and cooperation.
“His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s government will continue to secure meaningful international partnerships that translate into real progress for our people,” Dr. Benjamin added.
“As we continue to open South Sudan to the world, we do so with one goal: to build a peaceful, self-reliant, and thriving nation for every citizen.”
The meeting marks another important milestone in South Sudan’s efforts to strengthen international alliances and unlock sustainable economic growth for its people.
