Authorities in the Guit County of Unity State have accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) of detaining a motorboat in the area.

The ship detained is said to have been contracted by the GPOC to transport port building materials.

The commissioner of Guit County, Simon Diu, said that the motorboat was detained alongside four other crew members in the Wichmoun area of Guit County.

“I did several communication with the leadership of the SPLM-IO in Unity State to release the ship and four pilots members who were arrested last month,” he said.

The ship was transporting four containers of construction materials for the port in Guit County following a request from the county authorities to GPOC.

Meanwhile, Yai Pazale, the SPLA-IO sector two spokesperson in  Unity State, said he is not aware of any ship being detained in the area.

“I just heard that a ship was detained but I am not aware of that information of detainees,” he said.
